5These are THE BEST circular knitting needlesMar 27, 2010

I really love Addi Turbo Circular Knitting Needles needles and they have been my mainstay for nearly 20 years. I had tried bamboo needles and really didn't like the way they felt -- the yarn didn't glide very well.

I tried the Knit Picks wooden needle sets Options Interchangeable Harmony Wood Circular Knitting Needle Set and really loved the wooden ends on these. I also liked the cables until the joins started coming apart so I decided to go back to "fixed length needles".

I found Lantern Moons in my local yarn shop -- I was drawn to them for their sheer beauty. They are the ultimate knitting needle. They are expensive (though Addi Turbos are getting up there in terms of cost) but they just feel soooo good to work with. Yarn glides easily. The joins with the cables are beautiful heavy duty "gold-tone". The cables are just about perfect in terms of flexibility -- not too flexible to where heavy pieces "slink down" to the middle causing too much weight. However, they aren't so stiff to where they are kinking up. (I find my Addis tend to be a bit too stiff in this respect -- even after warming them in hot water).

I personally prefer the ebony needles to the rosewood because they seem a bit smoother and harder wood than the rosewood.

My attitude with knitting is that it is a very tactile hobby -- you spend so much time working on a project, you should use the most comfortable and most pleasurable tools you can afford. Lantern Moons are definitely it. They are worth the money and knitting with them will make your time even more enjoyable.

Finally, Lantern Moon has a strong commitment to making sure the woods they use have minimal environmental impact while being socially and economically responsible.
