Perfect for the beginning/casual sewerDec 01, 2008
By Mary I've had this machine for three months now and I love it. It's easy to understand and use. It's not an intimidating machine at all. I'm an adult beginning sewer, learning by reading books and practicing. I find it's perfect for my needs. I don't foresee myself becoming a sewing maniac but I like being creative and just making or repairing things. As a result, a machine like this totally fits my needs and the adorable Hello Kitty design helps make the work even more fun.
Update 02/20/2009: I turned into a sewing maniac after all! As a result, I discovered the limitations of this machine and eventually bought a full-size Janome electronic sewing machine that I'm very happy with.
Here are the limitations of the Hello Kitty version: - there is no speed control. Like a golf cart, you either go or you're at stop. It helps to have better control otherwise you might not be sewing where you want to sew. - the 4-step buttonholer was frustrating to use and I could never get consistent looking buttonholes.
Those were really the only two things that bothered me. I still have this machine because I love the looks of it, but I consider it a backup.

By Robin Holland I purchased this item for my daughter's 7th birthday. She loves it!! Easy to operate and she can take it with her to Nana's to sew with her!! The price savings was amazing.

Wonderful machine!Feb 01, 2012
By Wifeybo Janome 11706 3/4 Size Hello Kitty Sewing Machine
This is a wonderful machine for the price. It works better than my expensive full sized machine and it is light and easy to transport and store. I find it really easy to use. I have used it to make curtains, purses, dresses, shirts, slippers, and for mending. It works on everything even stretch fabrics and thick denim. I think that the people who are having problems with it are using the wrong needles and bobbins. You must use the ones sized for Janome machines. Better quality thread also makes a HUGE difference. I use Guetermann and it works like a dream. I love this machine so much that I am now saving up for the new Hello Kitty Janome electronic machine.

Perfect for beginners or travelApr 04, 2012
By M. Miller My mother-in-law bought this machine for my 7-year-old daughter. We wanted a smaller machine for her to learn on, but all the 'toy' machines are such awful junk we went for this one. I'm so glad we did! I'm an avid seamstress and have an old-school pfaff, but I have to admit I've been stealing her machine more and more frequentlym especially when I go out to sew!
Pros: It's lightweight, making it perfect for travelling, for pulling out for a quick repair, and for young learners.
It's super easy to use. My daughter learned quickly how to sew with it and works on her own now.
It's SO cute. Adorable. Why can they make full sized machines this darling?
It's very good quality and sews like a dream. The sound is uniform and smooth and the stitch quality is excellent. No complaints from us and we've had it over a year!
Cons: This doesn't do 'fancy' stuff. If you want a machine with fancy stitch capabilities and plan on becoming a professional seamstress, this could not be your only machine. But I still think this is an excellent second machine for an expert seamstress.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase and recommend it to anyone.
As for the review that said it only has one speed, I haven't found this to be any different from any other machine I've used. If you push the pedal in all the way, it goes fast. Just a light push results in a slow speed.

Perfect for the casual sewer or travelDec 01, 2011
By Margaret I've had my machine for three years and it gets pretty heavy use. I've never had any problems getting it to do what I want(ie: variation in speed, getting through thick fabric) I'm currently making an art quilt with it and have had little trouble with precision. There were some issues at first getting used to and understanding what the tension needs to be at for different threads/materials but if you're patient at first it's pretty easy to figure out. This machine is much quieter(although still makes plenty of noise) than other more expensive machines and it's fairly light weight so I've had no problems traveling with it. It needs cleaned on a regular basis like any other machine or the tension acts up but I've never once gotten it serviced. I'd like to get a little heavier duty machine in the not too distant future but this machine will definitely be staying around.
