all good, except one thing....Aug 05, 2010 I have the sewing machine (Brother XL 2610)for about a month now. I bought the machine when my Singer's gear broke, and the sewing machines tech asked me for $150 to fix it. I found the broken part and I am going to fix it myself. But in the mean time I needed a sewing machine. So, I got on Amazon.com and searched for a cheap sewing maching that does the job.
So far, this machine is great, it goes over jeans fabric, or 3-4 layers of fabrics, doesn't skip, the manual and instructions are well written.
But there was something what wasn't in the manual... OILING. I called Brother Intl-USA, and asked them how to oil this machine. The CSR told me that it has to be done by a specialist at an authorized dealer in my area. Since I am very krafty, I asked him what kind of oil I need... He insisted that I can't do it because the machine has some electrical parts in it. However ... on the Brother's site, it says that the machine needs to be oiled about each 300-500 hrs of use. I looked online for the authorized dealer in my area (Sarasota, FL), and the lady there was very kind to tell me that I "got a Hell of a deal" on Amazon.com, by paying only ~$84. But the bad news is that the oiling is going to cost me $79.99 for a mechanical seing machine (like the one I have), and $89.99 for a computerized one.
Now, the good part is that the machine doesn't need to bo oiled only maybe once a year... but it will cost me as much as I paid to buy a new machine... So ... my idea is to just use it until it breaks and buy a new one...
SO, PEOPLE BE AWARE WHEN YOU BUY THIS MACHINE. IT IS A VERY GOOD MACHINE... BUT KIND OF DISPOSABLE...
I don't know if I would have bought this machine if I would have had this info... Fact is... I was very upset when I did the research and found out this oiling info.
Good luck to everyone.
Love this Machine!Aug 04, 2010 I had not done much sewing in 20 years or so when I decided to buy this machine. I love it! It is so very easy to use. It is easy to thread and my favorite part is the automatic needle threader. The bobbin is easy to fill and easy to load. The machine is heavy duty enough to manage heavier fabrics. I was working on a project with layers of velvet and was worried that it might get bogged down in a couple of areas with several layers but it went right on. This is a great basic, entry level sewing machine and a good value for the price. I highly recommend.

Brother XL2610 Sewing MachineMar 12, 2010 So far, I love everthing about this machine It's light weight and that's a plus; but, it doesn't sew like a light weight. It functions like a $600 machine. I'm very happy with my purchase and recommend this machine to anyone for normal every-day sewing.

This lil gal is great!Nov 15, 2009 I made a decision to start sewing, so I needed to buy a more reliable machine than the one I was borrowing from a friend that was old and annoyingly difficult (not the best thing to relearn a skill you'd never really mastered in the first place). However, I didn't want to spend a lot of money to get the fanciest machine ever when I know that I have a tendency to obsess over things for a few weeks and then get bored. Plus, I wasn't even sure I'd be good at it. So I did my research and although I must admit that my decision to buy this particular machine had a LITTLE bit to do with it being pink, I liked the price and the simplicity. Anyway, 6 months later I still love my machine and it's so easy and reliable. We have our moments but my friend with a 500 dollar machine has the same issues with hers (it's just a sewing thing) so all in all, I totally recommend this machine if you're like me and want cheap, easy and simple. It's a bargain. Maybe it won't last to pass on to my kids but it's a great stepping stone.
Awsome sewing machine!!Aug 17, 2009 I love this sewing machine, this is my first one and i love how it works. I love the colors plus it is simple and easy to use. Works great, I think it is great for starters and the price is very reasonable, I got a carrying case for it as well and other sewing accessories to help me along the way.
