I bought the simplicity bias tape maker from a local store. It came with a 1-inch tip (which means you cut a 2" wide strip of fabric, and the machine puts two folds in the fabric, each 1/2 inch in from the left and right outer edges of the two inch strip---thus, you wind up with a strip that is 1-inch wide between the two folds). I also purchased the 1/2-inch tip (which means you start out with a 1-inch wide strip, and the machine puts two 1/4-inch folds in, so you wind up with a strip that is 1/2-inch between the folds). When I got the machine home, my wife and I tried both tips out, and had absolutely superb results with both. You do need to cut the fabric accurately, and you do need to wait until the unit heats up before starting to run fabric through---unless you do, it's kind of like trying to iron with a cold iron. My wife wants to get a few other tips as well. All in all, I've got to say the performance of the machine and the tips really exceeded my expectations by a large margin. I'm pleasantly surprised that such a modestly priced unit performs so professionally.

This product works best with cotton fabrics. I orderd it for making trims for blouses, not a good idea since my fabrics are often synthetics and it doesn't do well with them. This is a good product if you're working with cotton fabric.
