5Kick your Artquilt up a notchJun 25, 2011
By Elizabeth Harris
These fibers are just what the serious fiber artist needs to kick creativity up to a higher level and and add some serious bling. The fibers come out of the package kind of like thick stranded cotton candy--all poofy and, well, fiber-y. But a hit with the iron fuses them irrevocably to each other. Just be sure to use protective layers to sandwich them in or they will stick irrevocably to your iron too. I use a silicone baking mat that I requisitioned from the kitchen DeMarle 2409 Silpat 11-5/8-by-16-1/2-Inch Nonstick Silicone Baking Mat. Once fused you have a textile that you can sew down and use as a surface embellishment or further manipulate by cutting and fusing again. The iridescent colors are my favorites. They are simply stunning after being fused and really bring a unique flair to a project. Experiment with heat settings on the iron, too--lower heat will just fuse the fibers. Higher heat setting will alter the colors of the iridescent fibers and add more interesting affects. I have used these fibers in with great success in my artqulits and on handmade cards--see my added product pictures above! Note: these fibers are for nonfunctional wall-hanging applications only--no washing and drying here.

4Great ProductApr 18, 2010

I only gave it 4 stars because I think the application on this is somewhat limited, I should have ordered the film instead of the fibers for what I had in mind to use it for, but that's just me. Having said that, however, the fibers are really beautiful and I have no doubt I will figure out something to use them for. You iron it between paper towels, and they do only stick to each other...it's very easy and mixing the colors produces some really amazing results. Would buy the Angelina again, but in the film rather than the fiber application.
