 Works, but it's really fussy.Jul 25, 2010
I tend to make a lot of i-cord, so I thought this machine would be a perfect solution. I had visions of me sitting in front of the TV, mindlessly cranking out a blanket edging, but this machine is a little too fussy for that. I really had a hard time getting it to take up yarn properly and I had a lot of missing stitches. Going in each time with a tiny little crochet hook was not working out very well for me, so I did a little surgery. I took off the cover with a screwdriver, created a new holder for the incoming yarn to pass through out of a bent paperclip and then taped everything down. After that, it worked just fine. It still skips every other yard, but that's much better than before. It's not easy to fix a skipped stitch on this machine, even with the cover off, but I eventually got the hang of it. I still have to watch it make i-cord, but at least it makes it fairly quickly. I used it with Rowan's 4-ply cotton, Cotton Classic and the poly-blend, sport weight yarn that it came with and got similar results with all three yarns.
Even with all the trouble I had I would still buy it, but I don't know that this is the best introduction to knitting and crafting for kids. I had a knitting machine as a kid that made round tubes that was just more foolproof than the Embellish-Knit. If you're looking for something that just makes i-cord, this is it, but be prepared to modify it to get it to work well.

This little machine has saved me so much time knitting i-cords for my projects. It is also endlessly entertaining for my students and TA.
It is a little hard to get started but once you do it runs pretty flawlessly for me. If there is a mistake it is easy to take out and start again.
I would not recommend this for someone who has no knitting knowledge at all because then it would be hard to understand the concept of how the stitches work to ensure that you start it up the proper way.

The directions that come with the Embelish Knit are a little less than clear but once I watched the "how to" video on "YouTube" the whole process became very clear. I love this little gem. Really love it and now can crank out i-cord like nobodies business. Which makes making i-cord ebelishments so much faster.

Super easy to use and figure out - I was going full speed within a few minutes of opening the package.
Very fun, even my kids got to turn the handle!
