fun and easyDec 14, 2007

I've made a number of Amy Butler's bags over the past few years and this one is probably my new favorite. The directions are well written. The pattern is simple yet very stylish. I've made the handbag and tote and will probably make them both again as gifts. This is an advanced beginner project or an ambitious beginner project. Have fun!

VERY CUTE BAG!!Sep 23, 2009

Love this bag, however, one little glitch in the pattern. For some reason, the lining pattern piece produces a lining that is smaller than the outer body of the bag, which when the bag is full of your "Stuff" causes the top band and seam to "pull down" slightly distorting the cute shape of the bag. For my next bag, I just cut out the regular outer body piece for the lining, and sewed it the same as the outer body. Problem solved!

Frenchy BagMar 15, 2010

The Frenchy Bag is a fun bag to make for anyone. The tote size is great and the handbag size is even better! As always, your fabric choice is key. The directions are good, the supply list could use some help but over all the bag is fun to make and hip to give to some else! Enjoyed it.

Lovely bag!Aug 11, 2010
By Graciela G. My bag turned out so nicely. The instructions are easy to follow, though you may have to re-read some parts. Specifically, I had a hard time understanding how to attach the top panel to the main panel since there wasn't a diagram. I eventually figured it out. This is the first bag I've made and I look forward to making more as gifts. Of course, how nicely your bag comes out all depends on your fabric selection. The shape alone can't save it from bad colors or prints. But if you find cute fabrics it shouldn't be too hard to make a beautiful bag.
Something I will change in the future are the inside pockets. I find that two pockets on each side is more compartments than I care to deal with. It makes it hard to look for things in your bag. So a split pocket on just one side is good enough for me. That's just my suggestion.
